What is the LYL Strong Girls Program?
A 4 Week, afterschool fitness and nutrition program for girl’s ages 11 to 14.
Each week the girls will meet and participate in a 2hr session that focuses on exercise, healthy eating and self-care.
This program is designed to promote self-confidence in teen girls by showing them they are strong and capable, and can achieve any goal they set for themselves.
How this program helps to foster Strong Girls:
- Creating an appreciation for the benefits of being active and living a healthy lifestyle
- Building an understanding of what constitutes healthy eating habits
- Teaching the practice of daily self-care and what it means to love and respect your body
- Promoting the importance of positive self-talk
- Encouraging awareness of core values, personal interests, strengths and attributes
- Creating an opportunity to develop friendships with girls who share their interest in living a healthy, active lifestyle
What types of sessions will they participate in?
Encouraging a positive exercise experience the girls will enjoy a total strength and cardio conditioning workout that will fire up all the major muscle groups for a total body workout. Each girl will work at her current fitness level, while enjoying the challenge and motivation of her group.
Girls Eat Good
With so many mixed messages in the media, it’s important for girls to learn what eating healthy is all about. In this session girls will learn how to have a healthy relationship with food and experiment with healthy cooking.
Girls Spa Day
Teaching the importance of nurturing themselves, we will lead the girls through basic yoga poses, share relaxing techniques, let them experiment with aromatherapy, and enjoy pampering themselves with all natural body nourishing products; all while learning the importance of affirmations.

Where are the Strong Girls sessions taught?
At the Love Yourself Lean private studio inside Global Gym on 92 Elizabeth Ave. Other locations may include Marguerite’s Place, and Merry Meeting Road Sobeys.
What times are the Strong Girl sessions?
Sessions take place on Thursdays from 3:30-5:30pm.
Who will be teaching these sessions?
Courtney Rowsell, CSCS, HFS, founder and owner of Love Yourself Lean Intl. Facilitator of youth programs at various local community centres, guest speaker to youth groups through the City of St. John’s and creator of Chit Chat for Chicks; a teen girls program that prompted healthy living for young girls at Rabbittown Community Center.
