Mulled Wine
Start holiday festivities with a big batch of mulled wine. Served warm, it has all the spices associated with the holidays, is super low in calories and has the heart-healthy benefits of red wine.
Serves 10-12
INGREDIENTS
- 1.5 liter bottle of your favourite red wine
- Zest from 1 lemon
- Zest from 1 orange
- 3 cinnamon sticks (broken in half)
- 3 star anise
- 1/2 tbsp. cloves
- 1/2 tbsp. ginger
- 1/2 tbsp. nutmeg
- Organic raw honey, or apple juice to taste
- slices or cinnamon sticks for garnish
DIRECTIONS
Pour wine into large saucepan and cook over low heat.
Make a sachet with the spices, place the sachet in the pan, add lemon and orange zest to the wine and simmer for 30 minutes.
Add sweetener of your choice to taste.
Pour the wine through a strainer and serve in heatproof glasses.
Garnish each glass with a sliced orange or cinnamon stick.
