“I have gained so much from this challenge!
On March 19th 2015 I turned 29. I’m not one to put too much weight on birthdays but this year my birthday was different. I am married to a wonderful husband and have 2 amazing little girls. We have a roof over our heads and good food on the table. What more could I ask for?
I still wasn’t happy. Right around my 29th birthday I realized I needed to make a change- and that change was how I treated myself. I’ve spent the past 9 years working in the beauty industry. I’ve been a hairstylist, a makeup artist, a nail technician and dabbled in pretty much everything else that has to do with making other people look and feel beautiful. While I always took care of myself for the most part- when I had children I had to let a few things slide. I was overwhelmed by the responsibility of a home, 4 pets, a husband, 2 toddlers and a business (I perform services on my clients from my home). I quickly lost a sense of who Heather really was. I was so busy pleasing everyone else that I never did anything for myself.
January 2015 I signed us up for a family membership at the YMCA. While we live in CBS, I felt the Y offered the best for my kids and myself. I tried time and time again to get into going to the gym. I tried to follow some of the workouts that I had done in the previous LYL program but it wasn’t working. I wasn’t motivated. I wasn’t confident. I was stressed out. It was stressful bringing the kids there in the winter and they kept getting sick. We stopped going and I suffered further.
So back to my birthday. At this point I’m after putting on a little weight- clothes aren’t fitting comfortably and I’m feeling super unhealthy. My skin is looking terrible and I’m not a great person to be around.
I decide to ask for help.
I met with a few people I trust and they told me what I already knew but were afraid to leap into: I needed to get out of the house. I needed to let my husband be responsible for more, and let him be supportive of what I wanted to do with my life because he had always been telling me he wanted to do that for me and I never really allowed it to happen. I needed to put myself out there. So I did.
In the past 4 weeks I landed a new part time job that may possibly lead to an entire career change. I have lost 13 pounds and 11 inches. New opportunities have been coming at me left right and center and I am insanely busy and I love it.
The first week of the 28 Day Challenge was not easy for me. I actually almost caved but I knew that I had treated my body so badly that this is what had to happen for it to get better. By the end of it I went from someone who couldn’t go to the gym and try to figure out a new workout because of who might be looking at me. Now I don’t even notice anyone else at the gym. I tried a new fitness class that I NEVER would have even considered 4 weeks ago. I am even trying yoga today for the first time.
When Courtney asked us to set a goal – I read and re-read her guide to setting this goal. I never did actually write down a goal. I don’t have a pair of pants or dress I’m looking to fit into. I’m not looking for a certain number on the scale and I’m not going down south next month and need to look good in a bikini. I just want to be the best version of myself that I can be and I want to go back to being the girl who cares what she looks like every time she walks out the door. It’s very easy to get stuck in the mommy rut and I was heading down that path. It is so much work to be a mother, a wife, and have a career but I have realized that if I’m not happy with myself- I can’t make anyone else truly happy either.
I HAVE to MAKE that time for myself
… and I’ve managed to do that effortlessly this past 4 weeks. Eating healthy isn’t a chore- it’s a necessity and even though I know I’m currently on a “diet” – it doesn’t feel like it and I know once I reach that “goal” (which is still so so broad for me because I just want to keep going and going until I find that place where I’m like WOAH this is me! Because I’ve never been there before and I can’t wait to get there) everything will fall into place in my life.
Thank you Courtney for creating this program and I’m so so lucky that I found it when I did. This past 4 weeks have been full of “the right place at the right time” situations and it’s totally awesome. I look forward to working with you further- you are so inspiring and amazing and have changed my life since the first day of the first program I did with you!
~ Heather
How inspiring is Heather! She put in an amazing amount of effort in just 28 short days, the majority of the work was on her mindset and coming to the realization that she needed to make time for herself and that if she wanted to make others happy she needed to be happy first.
She put herself back on the top of her priority list and reached out for help. This truly is the SECRET ingredient to ANY weight loss program.
Self-love is not selfish; the lack of self-love is self-neglect.
Heather has continued to enjoy amazing weight loss success and is now down a total of 25lbs and 17.5 inches.
The next challenge begins on July 5th!
