Cereal. Possibly everyone’s FAVORITE convenience food, but definitely one of the WORST foods you can eat, especially in the morning.
WHY? Read on….
Three main problems with cereals made from grains:
1. More than 55 diseases have been linked to gluten, the protein found in wheat, rye and barley. Gluten has been linked to many conditions such as inflammation, IBS, abdominal bloating, migraines, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, Rheumatiod arthritis, Ulcerative colitis, hormone issues such as PCOS, and the lists goes on! 2. All cereals are heavily processed, even the “healthy” and gluten-free ones. Grain mash (water and grain) is put through an ‘extruder’. The process of “extruding” the grain to form flakes or puffs actually destroys most of the nutrients in the grain. 3. Grain-filled cereals are a concentrated form of carbohydrates, even the low-sugar and “healthy” ones. Eating a high carb (with little fat and protein) meal, especially for breakfast, spikes blood sugar which leads to a sugar crash. These blood sugar imbalances lead to symptoms such an uncontrollable hunger, irritability, headaches, fatigue, lethargy, light headed, confusion, difficulty concentrating and anxiety.

While doing some reach on conventional cereals I came across an article that talked about a study that showed rats that ate the cereal box lived longer than those who ate the actual cereal! YIKES!! I gave up eating boxed cereal years ago. It always made me feel lethargic and I was always STARVING 30 minutes later! You see wheat stimulates your appetite, even whole grains. That explains why you can never stop at just one bowl. of your favorite boxed cereal. It’s more than just the carbs, it’s the wheat telling your brain to EAT more!
There you have it….3 reasons to STOP eating conventional grain-filled cereal, even the gluten-free kind.
Don’t worry. Giving up your grain-filled cereals doesn’t have to mean deprivation. Here’s a deliciously, satisfy “cereal” recipe that’s perfect for breakfast or a quick snack.

½ cup fresh blueberries
2 tbsp. chopped almonds, presoaked
2 tbsp. ground hemp seeds
2 tbsp. dried shredded coconut
1 tbsp. ground flaxseed
¾ cup unsweetened almond milk
Pour ¾ cup almond milk over top of the berries and other ingredients.
HOW to presoak almonds?
Soak almonds, fully submerged in filtered water up to 4 hours, drain and keep refrigerated
WHY Presoak almonds?
Nutritional inhibitors and toxic substances found in nuts grains and seed can be minimized or eliminated by soaking making then easier to digest and increasing the amount of vitamins and mineral your body can absorb.
